‘How to Rank Number One in Google: A Study of 1 Million Pages’

I recently sat down to review the study conducted by Matthew Barby, where he looked at an analysis of over one million pages on Google. The goal was to figure out what drives search rankings, and if it’s possible to determine what constitutes an “optimized webpage.” The results indicated 8 factors that are crucial to your website’s search results:

  1. The more backlinks you have, the higher your rankings will be.
  2. Earning backlinks from multiple domains is an essential step to SEO and being seen.
  3. Having keyword-driven anchor text is critical.
  4. Shorter page titles are best; with optimal range at 8 words.
  5. Keep your URLs short, under 60 words if you can.
  6. Add any necessary target keywords to the page title.
  7. Include your target keywords within your URL.
  8. Lastly, 33% of sites ranking on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd page have HTTPS.
